Sensor Calibration and Quality Assurance Procedures
Data Quality Assurance Statement
The shore station sensors at Bodega Marine Lab acquire data continuously. In order to ensure that these sensors are acquiring accurate data, regular data checks are performed and notes on factors affecting instrument function and accuracy are maintained at the lab.
Data being posted to the web site are inspected daily to check sensor function and to assure that data are within a reasonable range. On a monthly basis, the minimum, maximum and mean values are calculated for each sensor. These calculated values are then compared to historical data. Any large variations are investigated further.
Every three months, comparison measurements are made with a secondary sensor. It is expected that the primary and secondary measurements agree within the manufacturer’s specifications for accuracy of the least accurate instrument. Again, any large variations are investigated further.
All sensors are calibrated, cleaned and otherwise maintained according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
